Father, this outcome is not what I wanted.
I prayed, hoped, prepared, and believed for something different.
I come to You with my disappointment, confusion, anger, and grief.
I will not hide my feelings from You.
You already know my heart.
According to Psalm 34:18, You are close to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit.
Draw close to me now.
I do not understand why this happened, but I ask You to keep my disappointment from becoming permanent bitterness.
Help me grieve honestly without losing my faith.
Romans 8:28 assures me that You work in all things for the good of those who love You and are called according to Your purpose.
I do not have to call every painful event good.
I trust that You can work within painful events to produce redemption, wisdom, protection, compassion, and new direction.
Jesus prayed, “not my will, but yours be done” (Luke 22:42, NIV).
Give me grace to surrender in the same way.
My surrender does not mean my pain is unimportant.
It means I am trusting Your wisdom beyond my limited understanding.
Help me release the outcome I imagined.
Help me stop replaying how I believed everything should have happened.
Give me courage to receive the life that is now before me.
Psalm 31:15 declares that my times are in Your hands.
My future has not escaped Your care.
One disappointment has not canceled Your purpose for me.
One closed door has not removed every possibility from my future.
If I need to try again, give me courage.
If I need to change direction, give me clarity.
If I need to accept a permanent loss, walk with me through the grieving process.
I place my disappointment into Your hands.
Redeem what can be redeemed.
Restore what should be restored.
Redirect me where I need redirection.
My peace will not depend upon receiving every outcome I desire.
My peace will rest in knowing that I still belong to You.
In Jesus’ name, amen.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
What does the prayer “My Prayer for Peace When the Outcome Is Not What I Wanted” mean?
This prayer makes room for honest disappointment without letting it harden into bitterness. It trusts that a closed door has not canceled God’s purpose for your life.
How do I apply “My Prayer for Peace When the Outcome Is Not What I Wanted” to my own life?
Tell God exactly how you feel about this outcome — unedited honesty is part of healing. Stop replaying how it should have gone; when the replay starts, redirect to one thing you can do next. Decide your next step: try again, change direction, or grieve the loss — and ask for clarity on which it is.
What Bible verse goes with this peace prayer?
“My times are in your hands.” — Psalm 31:15 (NIV) Read the verse slowly before and after praying so the words shape how you pray rather than only how you feel.
Can I pray this prayer every day?
Yes. These daily prayers are free to read, print, or share, and repeating one for a week often does more than reading a new one each day. Praying the same scripture repeatedly helps it settle into how you think and respond.
