Lord, I have been waiting for an apology that has not come.
Part of me believes I cannot heal until they admit what they did.
I confess that waiting has become its own prison.
Their silence should not get to decide how long I stay wounded.
Romans 12:19 says, “Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath.
” I leave room.
I stop building the case.
You saw what happened.
You do not need my testimony to know the truth, and You are not slow about justice — You are patient in a way I am not.
Take from me the fantasy of the perfect confrontation, the imagined moment where they finally understand.
Give me real peace instead of an imagined victory.
If reconciliation is possible and safe, prepare both of us.
If it is not, let me grieve it honestly and stop knocking on a door that stays closed.
Heal me without their participation.
Let my freedom no longer depend on their humility.
In Jesus’ name, amen.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
What does the prayer “When the Apology Never Came” mean?
Some wounds never get acknowledged. Waiting for the apology hands the offender control over your healing. This prayer gives the verdict to God and asks for freedom that does not depend on the other person ever admitting anything.
How do I apply “When the Apology Never Came” to my own life?
Write what you wish they would say, then hand it to God instead of to them. Stop replaying the imagined confrontation when it starts. Grieve the relationship as it actually is, not as you hoped it would be. Take one step toward healing that requires nothing from them — counseling, honesty with a friend, rest.
What Bible verse goes with this bitterness prayer?
“Do not repay anyone evil for evil… Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath.” — Romans 12:17,19 (NIV) Read the verse slowly before and after praying so the words shape how you pray rather than only how you feel.
Can I pray this prayer every day?
Yes. These daily prayers are free to read, print, or share, and repeating one for a week often does more than reading a new one each day. Praying the same scripture repeatedly helps it settle into how you think and respond.
