Lord, our marriage is under strain, and I am tired of pretending it is not.
I bring You the honest version.
I confess my part before I catalog theirs.
Show me where I have been harsh, distant, dishonest, or unwilling to change, and give me the humility to move first.
Ephesians 4:2 calls me to be completely humble and gentle, patient, bearing with one another in love.
That is hard right now.
Give me what I do not naturally have.
Remove contempt from our home.
Let disagreement stay disagreement instead of becoming disgust.
Where trust has been broken, You know exactly what happened.
Bring truth into the open, and let rebuilding be honest rather than rushed.
Give us the courage to get real help — counseling, mentorship, accountability — instead of hoping this quietly resolves itself.
Where there is any danger or abuse, give clarity and protection.
Safety is not a lack of faith.
Restore what can be restored.
Where healing takes longer than I want, keep me faithful in the waiting and gracious in the meantime.
In Jesus’ name, amen.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
What does the prayer “Restoring a Marriage Under Strain” mean?
Strained marriages get worse when both people wait for the other to change first. This prayer starts with your own part, asks God to remove contempt, and pushes toward real help — counseling and accountability — rather than hoping it quietly resolves.
How do I apply “Restoring a Marriage Under Strain” to my own life?
Name your own contribution out loud before listing theirs. Replace one harsh response this week with a gentle answer (Proverbs 15:1). Book counseling or ask a trusted mentor couple for help. If there is danger or abuse, prioritize safety today and tell someone who can act.
What Bible verse goes with this marriage prayer?
“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” — Ephesians 4:2 (NIV) Read the verse slowly before and after praying so the words shape how you pray rather than only how you feel.
Can I pray this prayer every day?
Yes. These daily prayers are free to read, print, or share, and repeating one for a week often does more than reading a new one each day. Praying the same scripture repeatedly helps it settle into how you think and respond.
